Dukes 92 is a canalside pub and restaurant in Castlefield that has one of the better outdoor spaces in the city centre – a large terraced beer garden overlooking the canal basin and the Roman remains nearby. It takes its name from the year it opened (1992) and the grade of canal lock visible from the terrace. The main offerings are wood-fired pizza and a solid selection of drinks, and it gets busy in warm weather in a way that suggests most of Manchester has worked out that Castlefield is a better option than the usual city centre options on a sunny afternoon.

Inside the pub section is spacious and relaxed, with enough room that it rarely feels overcrowded even when the terrace is full. There is a separate function space used for private events. Castlefield itself is one of the more pleasant parts of the city centre to walk through – the Roman walls, canals and railway viaducts all within a short distance – and Dukes 92 is the natural base for spending an afternoon there. Families are welcome and children’s options are on the menu. Dog-friendly on the terrace.
