Fallowfield

Fallowfield is where most of the University of Manchester's 40,000 students end up living in second and third year. The stretch of Wilmslow Road between Ladybarn Lane and Moseley Road is the main strip: 256 for cheap cocktails, Friendship Inn for a proper pint, Kro Bar, and the legendary Font for two-for-one student nights. Big Hands isn't technically Fallowfield but everyone ends up there. Food is loaded with kebab houses, Subway, and the 24-hour Sainsbury's that's become a local landmark. Platt Fields Park and Fallowfield Loop Line give you proper green space five minutes from your door. It's not pretty, the houses are mostly red-brick terraces divided into shared flats, and the bin situation in September is grim. But if you want to understand student Manchester, this is where it lives.
