The Northern Quarter is best for bars, craft beer and indie music. Ancoats for underground clubs and restaurant bars. Oxford Road for student nights, Gorilla, Albert Hall and Manchester Academy. Deansgate for cocktail bars and upscale venues.

Most NQ and Ancoats venues are casual — trainers are fine. Deansgate and members clubs expect smart casual minimum. Larger events at Warehouse Project and Albert Hall have no strict code but smart is always welcome.

Yes — Gorilla, Joshua Brooks and YES regularly offer free-before-midnight entry. Many NQ bars have no door charge at all. Student nights on Mondays and Wednesdays at Oxford Road venues are often free or under £5 with an NUS card.
