Antiques and vintage in Manchester are found in markets, specialist shops, and general vintage stores. Quality varies but the hunt is part of the appeal.
Affleck’s Palace
Affleck’s Palace on Oldham Street has vintage and antique stalls. Different sellers, different stock, browsing is part of it. No single “antique shop” feeling – more like a market inside a building. Hours are irregular but usually afternoon onwards. Cash preferred.
Antique Markets
Rotting Market is an antique/vintage market (check dates, usually seasonal). It’s temporary, sells across categories: furniture, clothes, books, oddities. Quality is high because sellers are filtered. Entry is cheap.
Specialist Antique Shops
Various specialist shops: vintage furniture, vintage clothes, vinyl, books, maps, china. They’re scattered across the city centre and neighbourhoods. Finding them is half the fun. Ask in cafes or check community boards for current recommendations.
Etiquette
Prices are negotiable at markets, less so in shops. Condition matters for price. Most places cash-friendly. Shipping isn’t always available so buy what you can carry or arrange separately.
