About Platt Fields Market Garden

Platt Fields Market Garden is a community growing project in Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield. What was an underused corner of the park is now a productive garden growing fruit, vegetables, herbs, and flowers, all tended by volunteers and used to supply local food projects.

The garden runs regular volunteer sessions where anyone can turn up and help — no experience needed. You’ll learn about growing food, composting, and sustainable gardening just by getting stuck in. They also run workshops on specific topics like seed saving, natural dyeing, foraging, and seasonal growing. It’s a proper outdoor space where you’ll get your hands dirty and learn something useful.

Beyond the growing, Platt Fields Market Garden works with schools, community groups, and local organisations. They’re part of a wider network of community food projects in south Manchester trying to make fresh, locally grown food more accessible. Some of what they grow goes to community meals and food projects in the area.

The garden is in Platt Fields Park, accessible from Mabfield Road or Platt Lane, Fallowfield, M14 6LA. Volunteer sessions typically run on Wednesdays and Saturdays but check their social media for current times. It’s free to get involved. A good place to spend a few hours outside doing something useful, meet people from the neighbourhood, and take home some fresh veg.
