Joshua Brooks is a Princess Street mainstay that’s been pulling crowds for years on the strength of a simple formula: cheap drinks, two rooms, and DJs who know how to keep a dancefloor moving. The main room upstairs handles the bigger nights while the basement is a darker, sweatier space that tends to run more electronic-leaning sets. Between the two you’ll find most genres covered across any given weekend.
This is primarily student territory and the prices reflect that. Drinks deals are aggressive, especially midweek. The crowd is young, loud, and up for it. If you’re past thirty you might feel ancient but nobody actually cares – the dancefloor doesn’t check IDs twice. Thursday through Saturday is reliably busy. Weeknight promotions pull decent numbers too.
The venue itself is nothing fancy. It does what it needs to do and doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. Sound is decent in both rooms, the bar gets busy but moves fast, and the smoking area provides necessary breathing space when it all gets a bit much. Princess Street location means you’re within walking distance of everywhere. Josh Brooks won’t change your life but it’ll reliably give you a good night out without destroying your bank account.
