Heaton Park parkrun: Course Guide
A big, well-attended 5k in one of Europe's largest municipal parks. Rolling paths, a serious hill, and a proper cafe at the finish.

Heaton Park parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9am in the north Manchester park that is one of the largest municipal green spaces in Europe. It is one of the busier events in the region, regularly drawing several hundred runners, walkers and buggy-pushers across a single-lap route on the park’s tarmac and gravel paths. The course is honest rather than fast – it rolls, and there is a notable climb that will test your legs and reward you with a quick downhill stretch, so it is a satisfying course to chip away at for a PB rather than an easy flat blast.
Getting there is straightforward: Heaton Park has its own Metrolink stop on the Bury line, putting you at the park gates, and there is parking within the grounds (charges may apply). The park has a cafe for the all-important post-run coffee and cake, plus the tram terminus, animal farm and boating lake if you are making a morning of it with family. As with every parkrun it is free, weekly and open to all abilities – register once online, print or save your barcode, and just turn up. Volunteers run the event and are always welcome.
