Avro FC: From Aircraft to the Pyramid
Avro FC take their name from the aircraft manufacturer whose Chadderton factory defined Oldham for a generation. Formed in 2015, they've climbed steadily through the non-league pyramid from Robins Park in Royton.

Avro FC carry a name with genuine local resonance. A.V. Roe and Company – Avro – built aircraft at their Chadderton factory in Oldham for most of the twentieth century, producing the Lancaster bomber and later the Vulcan, and the name is embedded in the identity of the area. The club emerged in 2015 with connections to the former Woodley Sports FC and have adopted the Avro name as a nod to the industrial heritage of the north-east Manchester and Oldham area. Based at Robins Park in Royton, just north of Oldham town centre, they play in the Northern Premier League and have risen through the divisions with purpose.
What makes Avro interesting in the non-league landscape is the pace of their development. Rising through multiple divisions in under a decade is not the norm, and the club has done it by building a clear structure, attracting local players, and running a tight operation at Robins Park. The ground is compact and the atmosphere on a good day has the feel of a club going somewhere. Royton is accessible by bus from Oldham town centre, and the club welcomes new supporters and junior players through their development sections. It is a good example of how a new non-league club can build a genuine identity quickly if the people running it know what they are doing.
