Buying a wedding dress in Manchester is easier than people think. The city and surrounding Cheshire belt have one of the strongest concentrations of bridal boutiques in the UK outside London, with everything from £400 high street to £6,000+ designer-only houses, plus a growing bespoke scene in the Northern Quarter. The trick is knowing which boutique sells what, and booking the right ones in the right order.
Below is the guide. By area, by price, by what they actually do well.
City Centre and Salford
The Mews Bridal – Salford Quays
The biggest bridal destination in central Manchester. Stocks Maggie Sottero, Pronovias, Justin Alexander and a curated capsule of British designers. Appointments take 90 minutes, the consultants are properly trained (no commission pressure), and the changing rooms are the size of a small flat. Price range £1,200 to £4,500 for the main lines.
Best for: First proper appointment, mid-to-upper budget
Booking: Online, 6-8 weeks ahead for Saturdays
Forget Me Not Bridal – Northern Quarter
Independent, owner-run, sells designers nobody else in Manchester carries (Charlotte Balbier, Halfpenny London, Rime Arodaky for the Parisian look). Smaller showroom, more intimate appointments, the kind of place where they remember your name. Prices from £1,800 to £5,500.
Best for: Modern, less traditional, considered designer
Bowdon Bridal – Bowdon (15 mins south)
Founded in the 80s, the Cheshire grandee. Stocks Pronovias, Rosa Clara, plus a strong own-label collection at lower price points (£900 starting). The mother-of-the-bride department is the best in the area.
Designer-Only Boutiques (Cheshire)
Mirror Mirror Couture – Hale
The serious money end. Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Galia Lahav, Inbal Dror. Appointments are tightly controlled and the team only takes brides on a budget that matches the buying. Expect £4,500 minimum for the entry pieces, £15,000+ for the show stoppers. Champagne service, two-hour appointments, the works.
Best for: Designer-only, no compromise budget
Liverpool Road Brides – Hale
Cheshire’s other big designer house. Stocks Suzanne Neville, Naeem Khan, Eisen Stein. Slightly less imposing than Mirror Mirror, easier to book, similar price brackets.
Ellis Bridals – Wilmslow
Mid-to-upper Cheshire boutique. Strong Pronovias and Justin Alexander selection, plus their own atelier line for full custom (from £3,500). The alterations team is exceptional.
Sample Sales and Off-the-Peg
The White Room – Knutsford
Sample-led boutique. Designer dresses from previous seasons at 30-60% off retail. Appointments needed but turnaround on alterations is fast (2-4 weeks). Great option if you’ve got under 6 months to the wedding.
Pure Couture Bridal – Wilmslow
Off-the-peg only, mostly Maggie Sottero and Madi Lane. Take it home that day if it fits. £900 to £2,200.
Brides for a Cause / Wedding Dress Sale Manchester
Twice-yearly pop-up sample sales held at venues across Manchester. Hundreds of designer samples at heavy discounts (£300 to £1,500), proceeds typically go to charity. Tickets sell out, follow the @weddingdresssalemanchester Instagram.

The English Wedding Dress Company – Salford
Made-to-measure in British silk and lace. Mid-budget bespoke (£2,200 to £4,500). One of the few proper made-to-measure operations in the city centre area.
Plus Size Specifically
Curvy Bridal Couture – Stockport
Plus-size only boutique stocking samples in size 18-32. Designers including Maggie Sottero Curve, Justin Alexander Signature, plus their own line. Refreshing not to be the largest sample in the room.
The Bridal Emporium – Cheadle
Inclusive sizing across the entire range, samples in 16-26 as standard. Strong on Pronovias and Eisen Stein.
Suit Brides and Non-Traditional
The Bridal Tailor – Northern Quarter
Bespoke bridal suits, jumpsuits, separates. Wool and silk blends, sharp tailoring, perfect for civil ceremony brides who don’t want a dress. From £1,800.

How to Book the Manchester Bridal Trail
Six to twelve months before the wedding
Start with two appointments: one mid-budget (Mews Bridal or Forget Me Not), one designer-only or bespoke (Mirror Mirror or The Couture Company). The contrast tells you which direction your dress is going. Don’t book seven appointments in a weekend – you’ll lose all sense of what you actually like.
Three to six months before
If you’re at this stage, focus on sample-led shops (The White Room, Pure Couture) or off-the-peg. Custom is too tight a turnaround.
Bring two people maximum
Every Manchester bridal consultant will tell you this and they’re right. Three opinions is a committee. One person is too pressured. Two is the sweet spot.
Sale and sample event timing
Most boutiques run sample sales in January (post-Christmas) and August (end-of-summer wedding season). The Wedding Dress Sale Manchester pop-ups run March and October.
The AI Bridal Stylist
Not sure where to start? The MCR AI Bridal Stylist takes a 6-question style quiz and matches you to the Manchester boutiques that actually stock what you want. Saves three pointless appointments.
