Ellen Renton You and Yours Poetry Tour – Manchester
Ellen Renton brings her "You and Yours" poetry tour to Manchester this June, offering a free evening of contemporary verse in one of the city's most distinctive cultural spaces. If you're after something a bit different from the usual gig circuit, this is your chance to experience live poetry from a compelling voice in the current literary scene – and without paying a penny, which is brilliant if you're watching the pennies round here.
The International Anthony Burgess Foundation sits right in the city centre and is absolutely worth exploring, even if you've never been before. Named after Manchester's most famous literary son, it's a proper gem – housed in a beautiful Victorian building with genuine character. The Foundation regularly hosts cultural events that celebrate language and writing, so you're in good hands here.
Head down on Tuesday 23 June at 18:30 and arrive a few minutes early to soak in the atmosphere. Poetry readings like this tend to be intimate affairs, so it's worth getting there in good time to grab a decent seat. The city centre location means you've got loads of options for grabbing food or a drink beforehand – plenty of decent spots within walking distance.
