Shop Altrincham – Cheshire’s Affluent Fashion District

Altrincham sits at the gateway between Manchester and Cheshire, which means the shopping reflects both. Premium contemporary boutiques like The Old Bank Boutique sit alongside charity shops with Cheshire Set cast-offs, and Altrincham Market hosts a Saturday vintage scene that pulls dealers from across the north. Pair it with the Mackie Mayor sister venue Altrincham Market food hall upstairs, and you’ve got the most pleasant Saturday in the south.

Stamford New Road and Surrounds

The Old Bank Boutique – George Street

Premium womenswear in a converted bank. Designer denim, knitwear, considered casualwear. The Cheshire crowd shops here and the buying reflects it – Iro, Anine Bing, Jasper Conran, occasional Ginger and Smart.

Best for: Premium contemporary womenswear, occasion

Price: £££

Number Twenty Two – Stamford New Road

Independent womenswear, contemporary brands, accessories. Smart but not stuffy.

Oxfam – Stamford New Road

The Cheshire affluent crowd’s cast-offs. Regular Reiss, Whistles, Phase Eight, occasional designer pieces.

British Heart Foundation – Stamford New Road

Larger shop, stronger on furniture and homeware but the clothing rails turn up Cos and Other Stories regularly.

Save the Children – Altrincham

Smaller shop, kids and womenswear focused.

Altrincham Market

Altrincham Market Vintage Saturday – Greenwood Street

Saturday is Vintage Saturday. Five to ten dealers depending on the week, mid-quality vintage, prices below NQ standards. Pair with the food market upstairs for a proper Saturday lunch.

Best for: Affordable vintage, weekend day-out shopping

Price: £-££

Altrincham Market Hall – Greenwood Street (food and drink)

Not fashion but the food hall is what makes Altrincham a destination. Same model as Mackie Mayor (same operators). Multiple traders, sit-down dining, brunch through dinner.

Wider Altrincham Shopping

The Stamford Quarter

The pedestrianised shopping centre area in Altrincham. Mainstream chains plus a handful of independents.

The high street chains

Marks and Spencer, Boots, Costa, the standard high street chain set. Useful for everyday but not the reason to come.

Hale and Hale Barns (Adjacent)

Liverpool Road Brides – Hale

Cheshire’s serious bridal destination. Suzanne Neville, Naeem Khan, Eisen Stein. Designer-only, by appointment.

Mirror Mirror Couture – Hale

The other Cheshire bridal house. Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Galia Lahav. £4,500+ entry.

Sue Ryder – Hale

Hale’s only charity shop, which means donations are concentrated. Cheshire wardrobe rotation goes through here. Strong on dresses, occasion wear, designer pieces.

Hale and Hale Barns indie boutiques

The wider Hale shopping area has multiple independent womenswear boutiques selling Anine Bing, Iro, Holland Cooper, plus occasional Stella McCartney drops. Pricier than Altrincham proper.

Coffee and Lunch Stops

Altrincham Market Hall

Multiple traders inside. Pizza, ramen, BBQ, coffee. The default Saturday lunch.

Sugo Pasta Kitchen Altrincham

The Manchester pasta restaurant’s Altrincham branch.

Mooli Coffee – Stamford New Road

Independent coffee, brunch, light food.

Costello’s Bar – Goose Green

Pub stop for an afternoon pint.

Goldfish Restaurant – Goose Green

Sit-down lunch destination. Books recommended.

Why Altrincham Works

Three things. First, the Cheshire-Manchester border location pulls customer demographics from both. Second, the Altrincham Market food hall gives the area a destination identity beyond just shopping. Third, the Saturday vintage market creates a weekly weekend rhythm that local charity shops and indie boutiques benefit from.

What Altrincham Doesn’t Have

Designer streetwear or sneakers

None. Manchester city centre is the closest.

Casuals brands

None. END King Street is the closest.

Menswear specifically

Limited. The Altrincham scene is heavily women’s-focused.

Vintage shops

Just the Saturday market, no permanent vintage shops. NQ is closest.
