About Niamos

Niamos occupies the building on Warwick Street in Hulme that was formerly the Nia Centre — a venue with deep roots in Manchester’s Black arts and culture scene. The building has been through various incarnations and challenges, and Niamos now runs it as a community interest company, keeping it open as an affordable arts and events space.

The venue hosts live music, theatre, film screenings, comedy, dance events, club nights, community meetings, and cultural celebrations. It’s one of the few genuinely affordable venues left in inner-city Manchester for grassroots arts and community events. The main hall holds several hundred people and there are smaller rooms available for workshops, rehearsals, and meetings.

Niamos matters because Manchester’s independent cultural infrastructure is under constant pressure from rising costs and redevelopment. This building has served Hulme’s communities for decades, and the people running it are determined to keep it that way. The programme reflects the area — diverse, unpredictable, and not driven by commercial concerns.

Find them at Niamos, Warwick Street, Hulme, Manchester M15 5RF. Events are listed on their social media and website. Space is available for hire at rates that grassroots organisations can actually afford, which is increasingly rare. If you’re putting on an event and need a room, get in touch.
