Rusholme
South Manchester neighbourhood home to the Curry Mile - known for cheap and good food options.

Rusholme's Curry Mile stretches along Wilmslow Road and is the main reason students know the area. The restaurants compete hard on price and portion size. You'll find Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi restaurants alongside Turkish and Middle Eastern spots. It's not fine dining - it's the place where a group of students can get a full meal for under a tenner, with enough food left over to debate which restaurant does better samosas.
Beyond the curry restaurants, Rusholme has supermarkets, convenience stores, and small shops selling spices and fresh produce you won't find in the chains. The area attracts international students who come for the specific ingredients they need. The student housing is mixed here - some shared student houses, some family properties that take student tenants, some newer purpose-built halls. It feels less exclusively student than Fallowfield but with comparable rent.
Transport links are good. The area is walkable to campus and city centre, and buses run frequently. The neighbourhood doesn't have the same pub culture as Fallowfield - it's more about eating and less about late-night student drinking. For students on tight budgets, especially those who cook, Rusholme offers real value.
