Nights out in Manchester
General guide to student-friendly nights out.

Manchester's student bars cluster in specific areas. The Northern Quarter attracts younger crowds - independent bars, cheap drinks, live music. The city centre has bigger clubs and chain bars with student deals on certain nights. Fallowfield and south Manchester have their own pub culture - local pubs where students can afford to drink. The students' union runs events including club nights and gigs. Check what your course runs - most departments have social groups or union bars where you'll find people from your cohort.
Student nights typically run Tuesday to Thursday - these are when bars offer drink deals to attract crowds when weekends are empty. Fridays and Saturdays are pricier and more mixed demographically. The experience varies wildly depending on where you go - a night in a student pub in Fallowfield is completely different from a night in a city centre club. Both have their place depending on what you want.
Safety matters. Go out in groups, keep track of your drink, and use licensed taxis or get a friend to call you one rather than wandering for cabs at 2am. Most student nights are fun and uneventful, but being sensible is worth it. Know your limits and look after people in your group. The social side of university matters, but so does showing up to lectures and assignments - don't let nights out derail your actual reason for being here.
