Manchester’s yoga scene has expanded considerably over the last decade and now covers the full range of styles and price points. Hot Yoga Society has been running heated Bikram-style and hot flow classes in the city centre for years and has a loyal membership base; the studios are properly heated and the sessions are structured, which suits people who like an organised, instructor-led practice. The Northern Quarter is the natural hub for yoga in the city centre, with several studios within easy walking distance of each other. Didsbury and Chorlton both have strong studio presences in the south of the city, reflecting the demographic of those areas – the classes tend toward vinyasa, yin and restorative styles, and there is often a community-hall option nearby for people who want cheaper drop-in rates.

The split between studio yoga and community-hall yoga is worth knowing about. Specialist studios offer better equipment, more consistent teaching and a wider timetable, but they charge accordingly – class passes and memberships are the standard model. Community and leisure centre classes are cheaper, often run by well-qualified instructors doing sessions as part of a broader fitness programme, and pay-as-you-go. For beginners, a community-hall class with an experienced teacher is often a perfectly good starting point, and you can move to a specialist studio when you know what style suits you. Manchester also has a reasonable outdoor yoga offer in summer, particularly at Heaton Park and in the Northern Quarter, which is worth watching out for as the season starts.
