Badminton in Manchester: Where to Play
Courts, clubs and casual drop-in sessions for badminton across Greater Manchester, from SportCity to Wythenshawe Forum.

Badminton is one of the most-played indoor sports in Manchester, and court time is easier to find than most people expect. Wythenshawe Forum has consistently been one of the busiest badminton venues in the city – multiple courts, affordable hourly hire, and a regular mix of casual players and club sessions. Moss Side Leisure Centre is another solid option in the inner south, with good links to local clubs that use the courts for organised club nights. Manchester Regional Arena at Sportcity also has court hire available, and the venue has some serious heritage behind it: the Manchester Arena hosted the 2011 BWF World Championships, putting the city on the global badminton map in a way that boosted club membership noticeably in the years that followed.
The split between casual hire and club membership is worth understanding. Turning up with a friend for an hour of court hire costs a few pounds and requires nothing more than booking ahead. Club membership is a different proposition – structured sessions, regular opponents, inter-club matches and coaching – and the Badminton England club finder is the most reliable way to find a club near you. Manchester has well-established clubs across the boroughs, from Salford to Stockport, many of which welcome new adult members regardless of level. If you have not played since school, most clubs have beginner-friendly sessions that will not throw you in at the deep end.
