South Manchester parkrun: Chorlton Water Park Guide
A flat, scenic 5k around the lake and river at Chorlton Water Park, one of the prettiest and most popular runs in south Manchester.

South Manchester parkrun is held at Chorlton Water Park every Saturday at 9am, and it is one of the most scenic and best-attended events in the city. The course is flat and runs in laps around the lake and along the River Mersey on a mix of path and trail, taking in the nature reserve’s wildlife and water on every loop. The flat profile makes it a strong PB course, and the setting – far enough from traffic to feel like proper countryside despite being in the city – is a big part of its popularity.
The water park sits between Chorlton, Didsbury and Sale, with parking on site (it fills early on Saturdays, so arrive in good time) and bus access from the surrounding suburbs; it is also a natural extension of a Chorlton or Didsbury run or cycle. There are cafes in nearby Chorlton and Didsbury for afterwards rather than on the immediate site, so many runners head into one of those neighbourhoods to refuel. Free, weekly, all abilities, volunteer-run – register online, bring your barcode, and enjoy one of the prettier 5ks in Greater Manchester.
