About This Event

Mondo Queero is bringing Derek Jarman's provocative 1986 film Caravaggio to The Carlton Club Manchester for a night of queer cinema that'll challenge and captivate you in equal measure. This is essential viewing for anyone interested in experimental filmmaking, LGBTQ+ culture, and the life of history's most rebellious painter – Jarman's interpretation is visionary, sensual, and utterly mesmerising. At just £5, it's a bargain for one of the most important queer films ever made.

The Carlton Club on Deansgate is a proper cultural hub in the heart of Manchester's gay village, nestled amongst independent bars and venues that make this area the beating heart of the city's queer scene. This intimate venue has become known for hosting the kind of underground and alternative events that mainstream cinemas wouldn't touch, making it the perfect home for Mondo Queero's carefully curated programming.

The screening kicks off at 7pm on Friday 25 September, so arrive early to soak up the atmosphere and grab a drink beforehand – there's plenty of choice nearby on Deansgate. You'll need to be 18 or over, and expect a packed crowd of film enthusiasts and queer culture fans who appreciate properly adventurous cinema. This is grassroots cultural programming at its best.
