University corridor connecting campus buildings, libraries and students' unions in the city centre.
Oxford Road is where the university exists most visibly in the city. The street runs from the city centre up towards campus, lined with faculty buildings, the library, students' union facilities, and university-run halls of residence. During term time it's busy with students moving between lectures, crammed in with other commuters and office workers. The shops and cafes along the road are designed with student budgets in mind - cheap coffee places, sandwich shops, print shops for last-minute assignments.
Most first-year students spend significant time on Oxford Road even if they don't live there. The main library sits here, multiple lecture theatres and teaching blocks, and the students' union is the social hub for many degree programmes. The road is the connective tissue of the university - you navigate it constantly in first year, less so as you spend more time in departmental buildings or off-campus libraries.
Accommodation on Oxford Road is mostly university halls - purpose-built residence blocks aimed at first years. Living here puts you at the centre of academic life but near the noisier, busier part of the city. The convenience is real but so is the constant movement and lack of quiet. Most students move away from Oxford Road accommodation after first year, but it remains the place they pass through multiple times every day.
