Frog and Bucket
Comedy club in Northern Quarter with weekly new material nights.

The Frog has been running comedy nights in the Northern Quarter for decades. The room itself is tight - narrow bar downstairs, smaller upstairs room with exposed brick. When it's full the acoustics go weird, but that's part of the territory. Comedians performing here will have tried out five new minutes beforehand, which means some nights have tighter sets than others.
The open mic nights are the thing to know about. Tuesdays and Sundays usually have slots available if you're building material and want a stage in front of a real audience. The crowd knows what they're there for - they're not hostile, just honest. Promoters and agents sometimes sit in on the weeknight shows because they know new talent gets cycled through here.
Drinks are standard pub prices and the kitchen does decent bar food. It's worth checking the website for lineups because the bill changes frequently and Wednesday through Saturday nights usually have established acts booked in. If you're in the Northern Quarter anyway, it's an easy stop.
