About Cane & Grain

Cane & Grain does something clever with its Thomas Street building — it runs three completely different bars stacked on top of each other, and each one actually works on its own terms. Ground floor is the casual entry point: burgers, hot dogs, beers on tap, big windows onto the street. It’s a solid daytime spot and a good place to start before heading deeper.

The first floor is where the bourbon lives. A proper American-style whiskey bar with a selection that’ll keep you busy for months. The bartenders know their way around a julep and the atmosphere shifts to something darker and more considered. Leather seats, wood panelling, the kind of place where you order something neat and take your time with it.

Then there’s the basement. This is where Cane & Grain turns into a late-night venue — DJs, dancing, darker lighting, and a crowd that’s there to stay out. It gets loud and sweaty at weekends and that’s exactly what it should be. The transition from relaxed bourbon bar to proper night out happens naturally as you move down through the building.

It’s one of the few places in the Northern Quarter where you can eat at 5pm, drink whiskey at 8pm, and be dancing at midnight without leaving the same address. Open late on weekends.
