If you're putting on a screening in Manchester - a one-off at a venue, a regular film club night, an outdoor summer showing, or a full festival programme - MCR.CITY's events calendar is where it can reach people looking for something to watch. There isn't a self-serve upload form live on the site yet, so for now screenings go on through the events submission page or by emailing us directly through the contact page. We read every submission and add what fits.

The listing that gets the fastest response includes the basics a filmgoer actually needs: venue name and address, date and start time, the film's title (and running time if it's a feature), a one or two line description of what it is, and a link to buy tickets or an RSVP if it's free. A poster image or still makes a real difference to how the listing looks in the calendar, so attach one if you have it. Tell us if it's a series or a regular slot - a monthly film club at the same venue is worth setting up once rather than resubmitting every month.

It helps to say up front what kind of screening it is. A commercial cinema release doesn't need us - people already know how to find showtimes for a new film at Odeon Great Northern or HOME. What's genuinely useful to list is the stuff that doesn't show up on a chain cinema's website: outdoor screenings, repertory and archive prints, community film nights, student and graduate work, and anything tied to a festival programme. If your screening is part of a festival's official selection, it's usually better indexed through that festival's own site and through our festival submissions guide - link us to the festival listing and we'll cross-reference it.

Once a listing is live it sits on the Film hub and in the wider Manchester events calendar, so it's visible to people browsing by date as well as people specifically looking for film. If your venue is in a neighbourhood we cover - Northern Quarter, Castlefield and the city centre among them - it can also surface on that area's page.

Outdoor and seasonal screenings. Manchester has a genuine outdoor screening tradition worth building into your plans if you're organising anything seasonal - Castlefield Bowl's summer programme is the best-known example, and outdoor and pop-up screenings tend to draw a different, more casual audience than a standard cinema booking. If that's the kind of event you're running, say so clearly in your submission, since it's the sort of listing people specifically search for.

What we can't do yet. We don't currently support ticket sales, RSVP collection, or automatic recurring listings through the site itself - those all stay with you or your existing ticketing provider. We also don't guarantee placement or promotion beyond the standard calendar listing; there's no paid boost option live at the time of writing. If that changes, it'll be clearly labelled as paid promotion, not folded quietly into a normal listing.

Getting a faster response. Submissions with a complete set of details - venue, date, time, ticket link, description, and an image - get processed faster than partial ones, simply because there's nothing to chase up. If you're not sure whether something counts as film enough to list (a video art screening, a director Q&A, a mixed-media event with a film component), send it anyway and let us make that call rather than assuming it doesn't fit.

FAQ

Is listing free? Yes. There's no charge to submit a screening and no charge to have it published.

How long does it take to appear? We don't run this as an automated feed yet, so it's manual - expect it to take a few days rather than being instant. Get it to us with notice rather than the morning of.

Can I list a recurring or monthly screening? Yes - tell us it's recurring and give us the pattern (first Thursday of the month, for example) rather than sending the same listing repeatedly.

Do you sell tickets or handle payment? No. MCR.CITY lists the screening and links out to wherever you're selling tickets, or to your own booking page if it's free.

What if my screening is at a chain cinema? Standard commercial releases at chain cinemas usually don't need listing here since they're already well indexed elsewhere - this page is most useful for outdoor, repertory, community and independent screenings.

Can I promote a screening as part of a festival? Yes, but link it to the festival's own official listing where one exists, and see our festival submissions guide for the festivals themselves.
