Cask on Liverpool Road in Castlefield takes beer seriously. The tap wall is impressive – a long row of keg and cask lines that changes regularly, pulling from the best breweries in Manchester, the UK, and Europe. If there’s a new release from Cloudwater, Track, or Verdant, chances are Cask will have it before most places. The bottle and can fridge goes deeper still, with imports you won’t find elsewhere in the city.
The bar sits near the Castlefield canal basin, which gives it a different feel to the NQ beer spots. It’s quieter, a bit more grown-up, and the outdoor seating overlooking the water is a genuine draw in warmer months. Inside is clean and modern without being sterile – wooden bar top, high stools, a space that’s designed for drinking and talking rather than anything else.
Staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic without being preachy. They run regular tap takeovers and tasting events that are worth keeping an eye on. Food is limited – crisps and bar snacks territory – but there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance in Castlefield and Deansgate. Prices reflect the quality of what you’re drinking. This isn’t a cheap pint place but you’re paying for exceptional beer. If you care about what’s in your glass, Cask is essential.
