Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors is a speakeasy bar in the Northern Quarter and unlike most places that call themselves speakeasies, the entrance is actually hard to find. No signage, no obvious door. You ring a buzzer, you get let in. The location has moved around NQ over the years but the concept stays the same – hidden bar, good drinks, small space.

The cocktail list is serious. Classic cocktails made properly with quality spirits, plus house creations that change seasonally. The bartenders know their stuff and can make you something off-menu based on what you like. Prices are in line with good cocktail bars in the city centre – ten to fourteen quid a drink.

The space is small and dark. Exposed brick, low lighting, vintage furniture. It seats maybe thirty people comfortably. On busy nights it fills up fast and there might be a wait. Thursday to Saturday you should try to book ahead or arrive early.

The atmosphere is what makes it. It’s quiet enough to talk, dark enough to feel like you’ve found something, and the drinks are good enough to keep you there. It works for dates, small groups, or just a decent drink without the noise of a busy bar.

Finding it is part of the experience. The Northern Quarter location means it’s central and walkable from everywhere.

Ask locally for the current entrance. That’s the point.
