Flawd is a natural wine bar on Cutting Room Square in Ancoats, and the outdoor terrace is one of the best places to sit in the neighbourhood when the weather allows. The wine list leans natural and biodynamic, with a rotating selection of bottles from small producers. It’s not trying to be intimidating – the list is approachable and the staff are genuinely helpful if you’re not sure what to order. There’s a good selection by the glass, which is useful if you want to try a few different things.

Inside, the space is clean and straightforward. Ancoats has changed significantly over the past decade and Flawd is part of the wave of independent businesses that have made it one of the better areas of the city to spend an evening. There’s often food available – small plates and sharing options – and it attracts a mixed crowd of locals, people who’ve made the trip specifically and those who’ve wandered in from somewhere nearby. Busy on weekends; quieter and more comfortable midweek.
