Best Brunch in Manchester – Sat/Sun Morning

Brunch is a specific thing: weekend mornings, proper eggs, good bread, coffee that matters. Not bottomless prosecco nonsense. Actual food. These places do it properly.

Federal Deli

Federal started the proper brunch thing in Manchester. Aussie-style: smashed avocado, poached eggs, sourdough. The coffee is genuinely good. Flat whites, piccolo, proper espresso work. The space is busy and loud – it’s popular. Go early (9am Saturday) or expect a wait. Dishes are around £8-12.

Foundation

Foundation on Bridge Street does brunch properly. Hollandaise that’s actually good. Eggs cooked correctly – runny yolk matters. They don’t overcomplicate it. Toast is proper, not underseasoned. Coffee from a serious roaster. Mains around £10-14.

Trove

Trove in Levenshulme is a cake shop that does brunch. The pastries are genuinely made there. Croissants that are buttery and crispy. Eggs are secondary here – the baked goods matter. Good if you want something lighter than other places. Quieter than Federal.

Tamper

Tamper does creative brunch. Fried chicken and waffles. French toast. They’re not trying to be understated. If you want interesting brunch rather than classic brunch, this works. Prices around £12-16.

What Makes Good Brunch

Good brunch needs good eggs. Poached eggs should have runny yolks and just-set whites. Hollandaise should be made fresh, not from a packet. Toast should be proper bread toasted properly, not underdone. Coffee should be from a real roaster, not instant or pre-made. If these things are right, the brunch is good.

Booking

Most brunch places are walk-in. Saturday and Sunday mornings are busy. Go at opening time (usually 8 or 9am) or wait 30-45 minutes. Afternoon slot is quieter – go 11am onwards and you’ll find a table straight away.
