Manchester’s Best Parks and Green Spaces

Manchester parks are scattered across the city. Some are impressive, some are basic local parks. They’re good for walks and picnics when weather permits.

Heaton Park

Heaton Park is north Manchester, biggest park in the area. Open grounds, woods, walks. It has a mansion (partially restored). It’s good for long walks. Parking is available. Free to enter. Busy on nice weekends.

Whitworth Park

Whitworth Park is Fallowfield/Withington. Connected to Fallowfield Loop cycle path. Good walking paths. Tennis courts available. Quiet during weekdays. Good for casual walks.

Alexandra Park

Alexandra Park is Whalley Range. Smaller, local park. Walking paths are decent. It’s quiet. Good for local walks not destinations.

River Irk and Irwell

Both rivers have walking paths attached. Irwell is the main one through city centre. Walks are urban not scenic but they exist. Good for walks when other parks seem far.

Picnicking

Most parks allow picnicking. Heaton Park is best for proper picnicking. Food shopping at nearby shops works. Most parks have benches. Some have cafes.
