Z-Arts is Hulme’s arts centre on Stretford Road, operating as a charity and serving the local community as well as drawing audiences from across the city. It has a 100-seat theatre, a studio space, and a range of community rooms used for classes, workshops, rehearsals and meetings. The programme covers theatre, dance, circus, visual arts and music, with a particular focus on work for children and families alongside events for adults. It is one of the more active community arts organisations in Manchester and has been so for decades.

Tickets are kept at affordable prices, which reflects the venue’s roots and its ongoing work in Hulme – an area that has seen significant changes since the 1990s regeneration of the Crescents estate. The building is accessible and friendly, the programme is genuinely diverse, and it is the kind of place that makes a neighbourhood function as a cultural space rather than just a residential one. Worth following on social media for programming announcements, as events sell out and the listing sites don’t always carry the full picture.
